The legacy of Mooreville
& Horace D. Moore.

In 1856, Horace D. Moore arrived in Allegan County from Vermont and established a large sawmill along the Kalamazoo River, just north of what would become Saugatuck. Moore provided lumber for the growing community and built housing for his workers and a company store. His mill was known for its impressive output, with a local newspaper reporting in 1869 that over 51,000 feet of lumber and thousands of other wood products were cut in just a day and a half using a handful of saws.

Moore’s influence extended beyond industry—he helped shape the community by platting “Moore’s Addition” to Saugatuck in 1868. His home, the Park House, became a hub of activity, hosting figures like women’s rights activist Susan B. Anthony.

While Moore closed his mill in 1875, he remained in Saugatuck, managing farms and businesses until moving to Allegan in 1885. Today, the only remnant of Mooreville is the Park House on Holland Street, now a restored bed and breakfast.

Built on legacy.
Inspired by hospitality.

Enriched by this area’s history, Mooreville Hospitality Group carries on the spirit of innovation and community on the land where Moore built his legacy.

We share a campus with Moore’s original home, Park House. The campus includes our restaurant, The Southerner, our Airbnb, The Roost, and our marina, Shore Harbor. Just down the road in Fennville, our pizzeria, Iggy’s, serves delicious pies and soft serve in one of our favorite communities.

With a deep appreciation for the past and a vision for the future, Mooreville Hospitality Group operates a collection of businesses celebrating the area’s natural beauty and heritage. Our properties are designed to create great experiences for our customers and teams, blending the history of this beautiful area with modern hospitality.
